Hi! My name is Amy and I’m a 30-something who loves her family, dog and travelling. I live in a small city in southern Alberta, Canada and work for a municipality. My “real life” keeps me home most of the time, but I try and travel as much as I can. I have two sisters and one brother, and two of the best parents anyone could ask for. I’ll travel with any of my family and friends, but someone that I travel a lot with is my sister, Amanda. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with Rex, my Pomeranian, dabbling in DIY projects and home decorating.

My family and I didn’t travel much when we were growing up, and the first big trip I can remember is going to Disneyland in grade 8. In grade 10, I was fortunate to travel to Italy and Greece with a group from my school and I think that’s where my love of travel really began. It was a pre-planned trip with a set itinerary so I didn’t need to do any planning (thankfully, because I wouldn’t have known what I was doing). Fast forward to now, and every trip I go on has a planned itinerary, made by me, and Amanda, if she’s coming along. Now, every trip doesn’t go always as planned, but I think 95% of the things on the itinerary are seen/done each trip.
I am happiest while travelling. And no, I don’t think it’s just because it’s a break from work. Honestly, on a lot of my trips, I’m trying to see as much as I can, because who knows when/if I’ll be back to that city or country again? I’m not one to sleep in, and definitely not on vacation, because there’s way too much to see and do! Travelling allows you to see various cultures, lifestyles, history and so much more! I think you just need one amazing, or maybe just an average trip to an amazing place, to get you hooked. I couldn’t imagine not travelling; and I don’t usually go long without having a trip booked. I recently returned from Jamaica and I was home for three days before booking my next trip to Europe. Speaking of Europe, I have recently fallen in love with that continent and I plan to take at least one trip there per year. Itineraries and tips on the cities I’ve visited will be coming soon!
Last year, someone very special to me told me that I should write down my goals. Now, I’m not one much for that, but I decided to do it, mainly just to humour him. While I perhaps should have focused on career goals, the first one I wrote down was to visit five new countries within the next two years (we won’t talk about the “save more money” goal, since I recently re-did my bathroom and booked another Europe trip). In 2019, I was fortunate to take five trips throughout the year, with two being to various countries in Europe. In 2020, I have three more new countries that I’ll be visiting, and just like that, one of my goals has been met!
For those of you that are planners like me, I’m planning (obvs!) to do a post on how to create the best itinerary for your trip. Ideally, you’ll find some tips that can help you plan for your next adventure, or if you aren’t planning a trip, maybe I’ll inspire you to start looking. Even if you can’t book your ideal trip right now, you can dream!
